What To Listen To Playlist for September 2015

I’m trying a little something different this month for the What To Listen To Playlist. Instead of playing music that I listened to the over the previous month, I’ve decided to put together a list of songs based off of the holidays of the month, artist birthdays and songs to along with some “National Day of (fill in the blank)”. So without further ado, here are the songs on the playlist for September 2015 and the reason they made the list. Hope you like!

Back to School

That’s right it’s time to get back to school for you youngsters out there whether you like it or not. Thankfully, songs like “We’re Going To Be Friends” by The White Stripes make waking up a little bit earlier a little bit easier.

Labor Day

What better way to celebrate Labor Day than with a song from the working class hero, Bruce Springsteen? Well it could get a bit better actually but only if Springsteen sang a song about the most famous and legendary American worker, John Henry and that’s exactly what I have in store for this month’s playlist.

Performer Birthdays

Two legendary performers have a birthday in September. Bill Monroe on the 13th and Blind Lemon Jefferson on the 24th. To celebrate the father of bluegrass’ birthday I’ve included Monroe’s “Uncle Pen” in the playlist. “Black Snake Moan” is the next song to celebrate Blind Lemon Jefferson’s birthday (which also kind of fits into the next theme too).

Pleasure Your Mate Month

That’s right. There’s actually a month to celebrate pleasuring your mate and it’s not hard at all to find songs that are about this topic. Since September is also “Shameless Self Promotion” month, I’ve included a live video of me playing my song “Night’s and Weekends” about a gigalo. After that there’s The Doors and their song “Love Me Two Times” and then the Steve Miller Band with “Jungle Love”. See, it’s not hard to find these types of songs at all.

Talk Like A Pirate Day

On the 19th, we’ll all be celebrating “Talk Like A Pirate Day” so I’ve included two pirate-like songs. The first is “Singapore” by Tom Waits which might not be entirely pirate but it certainly has some pirate like feelings to it. Then we have Klaus Badelt’s theme to Pirates of the Caribbean. It’s a great theme and one of my favorite soundtracks.

Hobbit Day

Finally, the 22nd is Hobbit Day and what better song than “Ramble On” by Led Zeppelin to celebrate such a day? “Ramble On” is all about The Hobbit each verse is a scene from the classic book.

I hope you enjoyed this month’s playlist. Don’t forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel!
