Storytelling Podcasts

If you’ve been following me and my tunes for awhile you know that I love stories in songs. Some of you may be saying, “I know, I know already. You like stories. Get on with it”. Yeah, I mention it all the time and share those songs I like that also feature stories. But there are also a few ways that I listen to stories that have nothing to do with music at all. I listen to some story podcasts while walking the dogs or driving to shows and I’d like to share my three favorites with you now.

Drabblecast

drabblecastThis is the weirdest, most interesting story podcast I’ve come across online. Some of their stories are commissioned specifically for the podcast, so you’re not going to hear them anywhere else. They’re all fiction stories sometimes they border on science fiction but most of the time they’re just strange (which is why I like them so much).

Not only that, but the host, Norm Sherman, is an eccentric guy who has some hilarious intros and even throws in some of his own original songs based on the theme of that week’s show. A lot goes into this podcast and it really shows. Give it a listen, I promise you won’t regret it and if you do, we probably shouldn’t be friends.

No Sleep Podcast

No Sleep PodcastThis is another weird podcast featuring fiction stories except they’re mainly focused in the horror genre. Everything from murder tales to ghost and monster stories and they’re really good at making it creepy.

The funny thing is that I’m not really the biggest fan of horror films. It just seems like there are too many stupid people doing things normal would never do. That’s not the case with this podcast, in fact, most of the main characters in the stories of this podcast are pretty smart and seem very realistic. I guess that’s what you get from authors that somehow gets left out of screenplays. Give it a listen, but it does get graphic ever once and awhile just so you know.

The Moth

The MothThis is the only non-fiction story podcast I listen to and many of the stories are recorded live at Moth “Story Slams”.  Each podcast is a live performance recording of a person on a stage telling a story to a live audience. Some are sad stories, some are funny stories but all are true and that’s why I like it. The emotions portrayed in all of the stories are something that you can’t really get in the others.

Get on this podcast. It’s a fun one and usually family friendly.

So these are my favorite storytelling podcasts. Do you have any favorite podcasts? Let me know in the comments. I’m always on the lookout for new stuff to listen to.
